The ingredients needed to make Tuna flan:
  1. Take Casing
  2. Prepare 225 g plain flour
  3. Take 110 g butter
  4. Get 110 g cheese (I used strong cheddar)
  5. Prepare 1/2 tsp paprika
  6. Get handful chopped nuts (optional)
  7. Make ready Filling
  8. Take 2 tins tuna (145g each)
  9. Get 1 small onion - chopped very finely
  10. Get 2 tbsp mayonnaise
  11. Take 145 ml soured cream
  12. Make ready dash worcester sauce
  13. Prepare 1/2 large red pepper, chopped
  14. Make ready handful chopped parsley
  15. Get 1 egg

  17. Prepare tin (preferably flan tin with removable base) - 25cm diameter

Mix tuna, celery, parsley, onion, and pimiento; layer on top of cheese. Mix eggs, half and half, salt and pepper and pour on top of tuna mixture. If the tart shell is browning too much, cover the tart with foil paper for the rest of the baking time. Line a pie dish with the shortcrust pastry sheet.

Steps to make Tuna flan:
  1. Add the flour to a bowl. Cut the butter into small squares and add to the bowl with the flour with a pinch of salt. Mix together - either rub the butter into the flour with your fingers or you can use a food processor with the plastic blade as I did. Mix until the consistency is like breadcrumbs.
  2. Add the rest of the casing ingredients to the flour/butter mixture and mix well with a spoon.
  3. Reserve 1/2 - 1 cup's worth of the casing mixture for sprinkling onto the top of the flan later. Add the rest of the mixture into the flan dish, and press into the tin with your hands to make the flan casing.
  4. Mix all the filling ingredients together in a bowl, and pour into the tin.
  5. Sprinkle the remaining crumb mixture over the top
  6. Bake for 35-40 minutes at 200 c. Remove from the oven and allow to cool a while before eating - can be eaten warm or cold.

If the tart shell is browning too much, cover the tart with foil paper for the rest of the baking time. Line a pie dish with the shortcrust pastry sheet. Prick the bottom of the pastry sheet with a fork, then spread with a thin layer of mustard and top with the tuna. In a bowl, toss together the tuna, swiss cheese, onion, and flour; spread evenly in pie plate. The quiche was originally a quiche Lorraine, but has since been transformed.
